International Day of Charity
5 September 2026
Happy International Day of Charity!
Today, we appreciate and recognise the tireless efforts of NGOs and charities across New Zealand and the world, the people and organisations who show up for their communities every day, often without recognition.
September 5th was chosen to commemorate the anniversary of the passing of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her decades of work supporting those experiencing poverty and hardship.
Let’s take today to do a small act of kindness, engage with your local charity, or donate to a cause close to your heart.
Every act, big or small, makes a difference.
Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love- Mother Teresa
